About Firefly

Firefly represents finding and creating light even during difficult times.

“Welcome to the Jar” is an invitation into my world — my wrestling, my story, my faith, my growth, and everything I’m building. Tamara Humphries

The name became a representation of who I am and the message I want to share: even when you feel lost or surrounded by darkness, there is still a light to find.

She started as a sophomore at Brashear, out of cheerleading and track, at a school with no girls team — so she wrestled boys. Three seasons later she placed third in the state. A year after that she was a champion in college.

What she is after now: a national title, and Firefly built into something that outlasts the sport.

“I try to just be as transparent as I can, while also giving people who are afraid to wrestle, or really don’t know what wrestling is, the courage to start.”

On why she posts

“It’s a blessing and a humbling opportunity to just be that trailblazer for this whole thing.”

On going first

“Bringing grit back to athletes.”

What She Stands For

Athlete mental health

Her stated main focus. Advocacy work on the pressure athletes carry, and building the conversations that should have existed a long time ago.

Faith

The reason she keeps showing up, and the frame around everything else. A welcoming room, wherever anyone happens to be standing.

Growing the sport

Giving girls who have never stepped on a mat the courage to start, and showing them what happens when they do.

Welcome to the Jar.

Match results, new drops, and the parts of the journey that never make the highlight reel. The jar is the people coming along for it.

No more than a couple of notes a month. Leave whenever you want.
